Your Freshwater Aquarium - How To Detect Sick Fish
Your freshwater aquarium will at some time or another have fish that will become sick several times. It isn't easy to recognise any signs of sickness in the fish of your freshwater aquarium so close attention is needed. This articles looks at what signs to look out for which indicate how to detect sickness in the tank. Once signs of sickness are detected, these need to be resolved as soon as possible to avoid your fish dying as a consequence. once a fish in your aquarium becomes ill, it can soon spread in the aquarium and affect other fish so prompt action is due immediately. Your freshwater aquarium needs daily care and attention for your fish to stay healthy.
One of the first signs to look out for is the appearance of the scales on the fish in your freshwater aquarium. The scales of the fish can indicate many signs of illness. Wounds which are visible on the fish scales may be seen, or the colour or shade of the scales may be abnormal; different types of unusual growths may be found on the scales, and there may also be some broken or chipped scales. Any one of these signs, requires immediate attention and you research ways to resolve the issue at once before it becomes a bigger problem.
Look at how your fish breathe and note any changes which could mean that there is some sickness in the aquarium. A sick fish will have noticeable breathing difficulties such as accelerated or slow breathing. Once you have detected breathing issues, you need to examine the rest of the aquarium for the actual cause and the conditions of the other fish.
Pay close attention to the behaviour of the fish, as any changes can indicate sickness in the freshwater aquarium. Normally active fish may suddenly become less active, moving slower and becoming more lethargic. Fish which are usually slow, may start to exhibit erratic and more energetic behaviour which are signs that they are becoming sick - a feeling they are not used to. Their swimming pattern will also change from the norm, and this will prompt immediate action that something needs to be resolved in the tank, to stop all the other fish getting ill.
Make sure that you have done your research carefully and that you know what the signs of illness are and what action may need to be taken. Once you have found out what issues need to be resolved and you recognise it, you can purchase a variety of over the counter remedies which are equipped to deal with such situations. A specialist can also give you more advice if you explain to them what is happening in your aquarium, as they can make the correct diagnosis or confirm your suspicions. Getting help means that you can resolve the problem as soon as possible, and not waste time. Any delay can result in a huge loss, so the sooner you act, the better.
Keep a diary of what happens in your aquarium so you can act on any problems sooner in the future. You will soon become a dab hand at being a freshwater aquarium owner!
