How to Care Your Fish by Fish Tanks

Fish make a wonderful pet that are interesting and quite easy to maintain. Although they need regular attention like any other pet, like feeding and cleaning, they don't demand the personal attention of their owners. Before you go out and buy fish tanks you should learn a few things about how to take care of the fish.

Use technology

If you don't have time to keep your tank clean there are ways to makes the task easy or less frequent. All you need to do is get a few filters, aeration pumps, etc. They will keep your fish tanks cleaner for a long time by getting out all the debris. You will still need to clean it once in a while but not as often as otherwise. Cleaning a tank is not very difficult but will take about half an hour to one hour as you will need to be thorough with the cleaning.

Do not use chemicals

This is an important point which doesn't get stressed enough. You need to clean the hood and the tank with just water. You can use the help of paper towels or a scrubber to get rid of stubborn dirt from the fish tanks. Chemicals are very harmful and you may end up killing the fish that are not used to it. Use a siphon to clean the walls and just by using a vaccuum for the debris, you will have a tank ready to take in the fish.

Handling the fish

When you plan to clean the fish tanks, make sure you use a fish net and not your hands as you may end up hurting the fish. A little water should be kept out in a bowl where the fish should be transferred while you clean the tank. If you live in extreme temperatures, put the fish back in the tank only when the temperature is stabilized.

Cleaning accessories

You may have used rocks, artificial grass and other toys in the fish tank which need cleaning as well. This can be cleaned using running water and can be left to dry. You don't need to empty the water completely as removing just 50% will be sufficient. The solid filter media will have to be cleaned as well. After you replace everything and connect the electrical equipments, you can transfer the fish back into the fish tanks

Discus Fish Care: The Beautiful Aquarium Friend

Discus fish can make very nice pets and a beautiful added addition to any aquarium, but there are a lot of things you need to know when it comes to discus fish care before you even consider buying your discus fish. They are popular aquarium pets, but discus fish are not the easiest of fish to look after, as any aquarium or discus enthusiast will hasten to tell you, but all you need is some good advice and information and it is possible for even novice fish owners to give great discus fish care to ensure the species thrive and are happy for years to come.

When considering discus fish care, the most important thing to remember (which is true with all aquarium creatures) is that in order for them to survive and remain healthy, you need to be able to recreate their natural environment. Discus fish actually originate from the Amazon River and so they are used to hotter climates and warmer waters, so it is imperative that you keep water temperatures in discus fish tanks at a minimum of 86 degrees. Good water conditions are a must when it comes to discus fish care, and this includes keeping an ideal pH level in your fish tank so that the harmful chemicals in tap water do not affect the discus. Once you have considered the environment in which your discus fish will be living, then you should also take into consideration the location of the tank. Discus fish are very shy creatures and are sensitive to loud noises and disruption. Because of this, not only should their tank be full of places for them to hide such as ornaments and plants, but the tank its self should be kept in a quiet place away from disturbances from children, other pets or loud traffic noises. This should also be considered when planning on keeping discus fish within an office environment; if you have a very noisy office then it might be better to consider a different species of fish.

Discus fish are beautiful creatures, and they can make any aquarium come alive. But you need to remember that they need a lot of care and attention, so you should not even consider keeping these fish if you know you won’t be able to give them everything that they need.
