Wash clothes in cold water.

Most of the energy expended in washing clothes is used in heating the water. In most cases, warm or hot water does not help with the cleaning process, so set your washer on the cold setting. Use compact fluorescent lighting. You've probably heard this one. Replace those inefficient filament type bulbs with CFLs. The new fluorescent bulbs are about 4 times as efficient as the old ones and they generally last a lot longer. Over the course of its lifetime, one CFL can save you more than $25. If you are still a doubter, put them in light fixtures that are turned on a lot of the time and you'll quickly notice the difference.
